A story a day

The stories — and the one thing each of them turns on.

Before the tradition had arguments it had stories, and it kept them because they carry the point further than a definition can. Here they are — from the Upaniṣads, from the Mahābhārata and the Rāmāyaṇa, from the Purāṇas, and from the lives of the teachers themselves — told plainly, each with the verse or the source it comes from, the one Sanskrit word it hands you, and a way of testing it in the week you are actually having. One is set out fresh each day.

Every story so far

Nothing here asks to be taken on trust. Every story names the text or the record it comes from and links to a free copy, so you can read the original and disagree with the telling. Where the tradition itself reports something as a miracle, it is reported as the tradition’s own account rather than as fact.
