Practice & enquiry

Nothing here asks to be believed. So test it.

Eight questions, each one an actual step in the argument rather than a memory test. Answer, then read what the tradition says and where it says it — and notice that in every case you could check the answer against your own experience without accepting anyone’s authority. That is the method, not a teaching style: the texts call themselves a means of knowledge, and a means of knowledge has to be usable.

The daily experiment

Every message ends with one small thing to do and one question to answer by evening. That is the practice; the reading is only the setup. Today’s message.

Three stages, in order

Śravaṇa — hear it from a competent source. Manana — chew it until no doubt remains. Nididhyāsana — abide in it until it stops being a conclusion you hold. The terms, defined.

Keep your own record

Mark what you have read, choose what leads each message, and keep a streak — stored in your own browser, never on a server. Your practice page.
